Week 18 memories can haunt you, and while Tyler Loop did not cost the Baltimore Ravens a game Friday night, his temperament will be something to monitor. Baltimore defeated the Washington Commanders by 38 points, and every one of his attempts came with the result already headed in one dominant direction. Still, that does not mean the Ravens should dismiss what happened.
Loop made field goals from 51 and 24 yards but missed from 58 and 51 during Baltimore's 41-3 victory. He converted all five extra points, finished the game 2-for-4 on field goals, and ended the preseason 5-for-8.
Baltimore should bring in competition, just to test the rookie and keep him on his toes.
We're not talking about replacing Loop, just taking his temperature. His successful
51-yard attempt demonstrated the necessary leg strength, and a 58-yard miss should not automatically count as a crisis. He also responded to his first-half miss by responding from that exact spot on the later 51-yard miss during halftime.
Loop converted 62.5% of his preseason field goals, and his team, which is expected to contend for a Super Bowl, routinely produces close games in the AFC North.
