The Baltimore Ravens will take their updated training camp roster to Minnesota for two joint practices and Saturday afternoon’s preseason game against the Vikings.
Baltimore’s roster has undergone several changes since training camp began. Quarterback Skylar Thompson was placed on injured reserve, creating an opportunity for Joe Fagnano and newly signed Austin Reed. The Ravens also added running back Jonathan Ward and activated linebacker Teddye Buchanan from the physically unable to perform list.
Veteran offensive tackle Kendall Lamm retired, but Baltimore responded by signing David Sharpe following his Monday workout. Sharpe gives the Ravens another experienced option behind starting tackles Ronnie Stanley and Roger Rosengarten.
The roster technically
contained 91 active players before Sharpe’s addition because defensive lineman C.J. Okoye carries an international player exemption. Baltimore will need to announce a corresponding transaction to accommodate Sharpe on the expanded offseason roster. Thompson does not count toward the active total while on injured reserve.
The joint practices will provide Jesse Minter and his coaching staff with extended opportunities to evaluate position battles against unfamiliar competition. Saturday’s game will offer another important test before Baltimore begins making difficult decisions ahead of the NFL’s roster deadline.
