Game two is coming up fast for the Auburn Tigers after they defeated the Baylor Bears by one score after an incredible stop by Eric Winters to prevent a two-point conversion that would have given Baylor the lead. The game was much closer than many thought it would be
The Tigers enter Week Two with a 1-0 record as they will host Southern Miss for the first home game of the year and of Alex Golesh's Auburn coaching career. The Tigers are 33-point favorites this week. Auburn should be a hungry team coming into this matchup, wanting to prove themselves.
So here are the five reasons why Auburn will improve to 2-0 on the year.
Home environment
It's the first game of the year inside Jordan-Hare on the Plains. You add that it is a night game, it could get ugly as the Tigers
feed heavily into a crowd that's been tailgating all day. That first Byrum Brown touchdown in Jordan-Hare will hit different.
Auburn's run defense
The bulk of the offense we saw from Southern Miss in Week One came on the ground. The strength of the Tigers defense is stopping the run. When you have linebackers like Xavier Atkins and Elijah Melendez, you can rest easy knowing those two will cause havoc.
Brown's showcase
It wasn't the prettiest stat line from quarterback Byrum Brown this past Saturday. This will be a game against a weaker opponent and Brown will look like a man among child.
Washington is going to go off
I don't expect Auburn to have their starters taking the bulk of the snaps. So look for Auburn's running back Bryson Washington to have quite the day being a physical runner.
Roster
Look, Auburn's roster is going to be too much for Southern Miss at the end of the day. The Tigers' defense especially with the talent on that side of the ball. Auburn will win in the trenches and control the ball game all day.
