Despite Auburn's convincing 43-8 win over Southern Miss on Saturday, the Tigers were not able to move into the AP Top 25 released Sunday afternoon.
In fact, Auburn took a step back in their climb to make the ranking. The Tigers received two votes last week after their 17-16 win over Baylor. On Sunday, Auburn did not receive a single vote. It continues a downward trend for Auburn after receiving three votes in the Preseason AP Top 25. At 2-0, Auburn will have another opportunity to impress voters when they host the Florida Gators in the first conference game for both teams.
There was a shakeup at the top of the rankings with Texas moving to No. 1 after their comeback victory over the former top team Ohio State. The Longhorns trailed the Buckeyes
23-3 before scoring 21 unanswered points behind a clutch performance from quarterback Arch Manning. Oklahoma had a big drop after their 17-10 loss to Michigan on Saturday. The Sooners went from No. 11 to No. 24 in the rankings. However, Oregon had the biggest drop from No. 6 to No. 21 after a 39-31 loss to unranked Oklahoma State.
The SEC has nine teams in the rankings that also includes Georgia (No. 2), LSU (No. 7), Ole Miss (No. 8), Texas A&M (No. 9), Alabama (No. 10), Tennessee (No. 15), and Missouri (No. 20). Auburn's upcoming opponent the Florida Gators received 83 votes and sits just outside the rankings. Also, in the receiving votes category were Mississippi State with 17 and South Carolina with 15.
