The name that will be heard every time the Auburn Tigers' defense takes the field will be Xavier Atkins. The junior linebacker is coming off a stellar sophomore campaign after transferring from LSU to Auburn. It's led to to his name being linked to many award and honors this preseason.
All-American Auburn linebacker Xavier Atkins named to Walter Camp Player of the Year award watchlist
ahead of week one's game against the Baylor Bears.On Monday, Aug. 17, it was announced Atkins made the watchlist for the Walter Camp Player of the Week award for week one. Atkins has made it on many of preseason honor list and watchlists. Currently he is on the Pro Football Network Preseason All-American, CBS Sports Top 150 and Butkus Award watchlist just to name
a few.
Atkins recorded 84 total tackles, 17 tackle-for-loss, nine sacks and one interception in 12 starts for the Tigers. His tenure prior to the Plains at LSU, only saw him appear in seven games recording just three total tackles.
The Tigers and Atkins play Baylor week one in Atlanta, Georgia in the Aflac Kickoff Game on Sept. 5.
