Auburn football held its first scrimmage of fall camp on Friday, and several players, who were injured at the start of the preseason session, were able to compete.
Following the 115-play scrimmage on Friday at Jordan-Hare Stadium, head coach Alex Golesh addressed the status of two key transfers, offensive lineman Stanton Ramil and running back Bryson Washington. Ramil, who battled injuries on several occasions at Michigan State before transferring to Auburn, was able to participate in the scrimmage to his fullest extent.
"Since we brought (Ramil) back, he's been on a snap count, and today, went the whole time, which was really the first time for him in this offense to play just over a half, maybe two-and-a-half quarters," Golesh said. "He needed
it purely from an operating standpoint."
Washington was expected to be a heavy player in the running back room behind Jeremiah Cobb when he transferred to Auburn during the offseason, but an injury during the spring, along with not being in shape, has delayed his progress. Washington participated in Friday's scrimmage, and, despite showing fatigue, Washington provided enough effort for Golesh to evaluate his progress.
"I thought Bryson did some good things," Golesh said. "I thought he got worn out, which we needed him to and operate worn out. We'll be in a good spot there."
Other players of note who were held out of Friday's scrimmage include safeties Kaleb Harris, Sylvester Smith-Reed, and An'Quon Fegans, tight end Jonathan Echols, and wide receiver Christian Neptune. Golesh notes that Smith-Reed and Fegans should be available by Auburn's next scrimmage.
