Auburn baseball head coach Butch Thompson has earned many accomplishments in his 11 seasons as the Tigers' skipper. Wednesday, he added another honor to his belt.
The Alabama Baseball Coaches Association announced that three coaches from across the state will be inducted into their Hall of Fame, including Thompson. Thompson joins a pair of AHSAA coaching legends, Michael Blair of Maplesville High School and Drew Miller of G.W. Long High School, in this year's class.
Thompson just completed his 11th season as the head coach of the Auburn Tigers, the third-longest tenure by a head coach in program history, behind Paul Nix (22 seasons) and Hal Baird (16 seasons). In that span, he has led Auburn to two College World Series trips, five NCAA Regional
titles, and two NCAA Super Regional hosting gigs in as many seasons.
According to Auburn Athletics, this will be the third Hall of Fame honor Thompson has received. He was previously inducted into the Itawamba Community College Hall of Fame in 2014 and the Mississippi Association of Community College Conference Hall of Fame in 2021.
Thompson will be officially inducted into the ABCA Hall of Fame on Thursday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m. CT in Hoover.
