Offensive coordinator Joel Gordon spoke on the prep for the offense heading into their first official game week of the season.
On Monday, Auburn football offensive coordinator Joel Gordon spoke to the media following head coach Alex Golesh opening the weekly coaches' press conferences. Gordon opened by speaking about what he expects from the offense after preparing through a mock game week.
“I think it's huge," Gordon said Monday. "You go through fall camp, and there's not much time to breathe during camp. A lot of those days are the same as it was the day before and repetitive in that fashion. Then all of the sudden you get to the mock week and it's different."
Auburn's offense is the biggest change in the offseason with the additions of players
like quarterback Byrum Brown and right tackle Stanton Ramil. So many eyes will be on that first drive for the offense against Baylor come Saturday. The Tigers should be more prepared than most expect.
On the offense side of the ball, there is a great deal of continuity with head coach Alex Golesh having his offensive coordinator Gordon and quarterback Brown along with other pieces from his time at South Florida. Auburn will be facing a defense that is adjusting to a new coordinator. The Bears brought in Joe Klanderman to help clean up a defense that finished at the bottom of college football.
"He's a really good coach, keeps you on your heels all of the time," Gordon said when speaking about Klanderman. "I would assume, with his history and being a good coordinator in both of those schemes, that they're going to have the ability to do both."
If Baylor defense isn't cleaned up any from last season, the Tigers could make it get ugly on Saturday with the mulitple weapons they have on offense.
