Former Auburn wide receiver Eric Singleton will return to Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday when the Florida Gators visit the Plains for the SEC opener. Singleton will be on campus, but will he get the chance to play against his former team?
According to the initial SEC Student-Athlete Availability Report for Week 3, released Wednesday, Singleton is listed as "questionable" for Saturday's game against the Auburn Tigers. Singleton is dealing with an ankle injury, and defensive lineman Emmanuel Oyebadejo joins Singleton on the "questionable" side of the injury report.
There is a chance Singleton could play against his former squad, but Florida head coach Jon Sumrall does not plan to rush his recovery.
"I'm not going to rush either one of them back
and them not be right because it's a long season," Florida head coach Jon Sumrall said (via Gainesville Sun). "Do we want them both to be back? Yeah. But at the same time, we got to be smart tough, not dumb tough. And if they're not available, if they're not ready to play the right way for themselves, it's going to hurt the team."
Singleton, who transferred to Florida last offseason to reunite with his former Georgia Tech offensive coordinator, Buster Faulkner, has appeared in one game for the Gators this season, but has not recorded stats.
As for Auburn, offensive lineman Tai Buster is listed as "out" for Auburn's Week 3 game against the Florida Gators, while EDGE Joe Phillips and tight end Hunter Herring are "questionable." The SEC Student-Athlete Availability Report will update Thursday and Friday leading up to game day, with the final report dropping 90 minutes before kickoff on Saturday.
Auburn faces Florida on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT in Jordan-Hare Stadium.
