It is time for the Auburn Tigers to turn the page on their victory over the Baylor Bears.
On Saturday, Alex Golesh will lead the Tigers in his first game as head coach at Jordan-Hare Stadium when they host the Southern Miss Golden Eagles for a 6:45 p.m. CT kickoff. Auburn will look to clean up the turnovers and offensive line issues that slowed down the offense in game one.
Auburn enters this matchup as the heavy favorite. According to the ESPN Matchup Predictor, the Tigers have an 87.7% chance at victory. BetMGM also lists the Tigers as multi-touchdown favorites.
The game against the Golden Eagles will be a good chance for Byrum Brown to get some confidence after throwing three interceptions against Baylor. It will also be an opportunity for Auburn's
running game to dominate. In their season opener, Southern Miss defeated Alcorn State 49-3 to start 1-0. The Golden Eagles held a halftime lead of 21-3, but created separation with 21 points in the third quarter. Southern Miss rushed for 317 yards and six touchdowns in the win.
The last time the two schools met was 2018 when the Tigers won, 24-13. Current Denver Broncos backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham had a solid game, throwing for 245 yards and two touchdowns in Auburn's win. Auburn holds the all-time series lead 18-5 and has won four straight meetings in the series. The last time Southern Miss topped Auburn was in 1991, when the Golden Eagles stunned Auburn, 10-9, one year removed from Brett Favre's tenure as Southern Miss' quarterback.
