After being with the Houston Texans since 2021, tight end Brevin Jordan's time has come to an end.
Well, that was the initial thought before eventually general manager Nick Caserio elected to pick up the phone for a reunion.
Caserio announced Tuesday that Jordan, along with defensive end Dominque Robinson, would be signed to the active roster ahead of the 2026 season. In a corresponding move, Caserio said that offensive lineman Sam Hagen and offensive tackle Braden Smith would begin the year on the injured reserve and miss at least four games.
Drafted out of Miami by Houston back in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Jordan never was a regular starter, but he played in 36 games from 2021 to 2023 while being a factor in the passing game. In
three seasons, he recorded 53 receptions for 532 yards and five touchdowns.
Injuries plagued him and his status over the past two years. In 2024, he tore his ACL in the second week of the season and missed the remainder of the year and in 2025, he tore a patellar tendon in practice and missed all of that season.
He also recently had a knee issue during training camp.
Going into training camp this year, he was listed as the fourth tight end on the roster in Houston’s first unofficial depth chart, signaling that Jordan had an uphill battle to make the Texans’ initial 53-man roster. His progress was promising in training camp before his knee injury, which ultimately set him back and led to his release.
Since Jordan was a veteran entering Year 6, he didn't need to go through the waiver wire and was cleared to sign with any team. That team? The one that drafted him to become a staple of the rebuild back in 2021.
The Texans open the regular season against the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 13.
