Here's everything Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud said following a27-21 lossto the New York Giants in Week 7 and what to expect of this team following the bye week.
Q: On the final drive in overtime
“I want to thank God, through defeat. He gave me a chance to play this week and I want to give him the glory before I say anything. We get stalemated on first down. Go to second and ten. It seemed like a pressure package and I didn't expect the rusher to be 20 yards down the field, guarding. It's a good play by them. Third down we had a chance, but just really couldn't get it off, but that's kind of how the whole game went. Didn't really get in a flow, in a rhythm.”
Q: On WR Tank Dell
Stroud: “Yeah, it meant a lot. I'm just really proud of him.
Just really excited for him. It's a long year. He's going to get a lot more plays. Just to see him make a big play like that in the game was really cool. Just the energy of the crowd seeing him and thought he handled it very well. Prepared his butt off this week and got to find more ways to get him more touches, but I thought overall, really just proud of him.”
Q: On the penalties
Stroud: “We have to find a way to get that fixed. It's not winning football. When you don't give yourself a chance, those are drive killers. We just got to find a way to help whoever needs help out. At the end of the day, got to find a way to get it fixed.”
Q: On his passes to WR Marvin Harrison Jr. and TE Cade Stover
Stroud: “Yeah, they’re two good players and two of my teammates that make a lot of plays. I thought it was a good job by ‘Marv’looking it in and I thought Cade did a good job getting in the end zone fighting through some arm tackles and stuff.”
Q: On keeping his composure heading into the Bye Week
“I think we know how this goes. We're going to get a bunch of people talking crazy and want us to do this, do that, ‘he's terrible, he's bad, he should play like this, he should have done this’. We’ll just block out the noise and understand we got ourselves in this hole. We got to find a way to dig ourselves out. I have the most trust and hope in our team that we can do that. But, we have to address things, have hard conversations and I have to be better myself. There's a lot of accountability that needs to be had, and we'll be able to hopefully get those things fixed because going into a Bye Week, I think it's a good time for us to have those conversations and self-scout and get some things corrected.”
Q: On WR Xavier Hutchinson
Stroud: “I thought he played great. He did a great job even in special teams and he was making some big plays with the ball in his hands. He's always reliable and a very dynamic playmaker and just really excited to get him some touches in the game. We have to find a way to get everybody the ball and find ways to create more explosives.”
Q: On what feels different about this season compared to last season
Stroud: “It's a new season. I don't really look at the same being similar. Just try to look at this season how it is and it is what it is. Then last season is in the past. We have to learn to forget it and move on. I don't really look at the same.”
