Just because the Tennessee Titans have an 0-4 record, that does not mean they do not have some elite playmakers on both sides of the ball. On defense, they have one of the most seasoned defensive tackles in the NFL, All-Pro Jeffery Simmons.
Simmons has started the season well, totaling two sacks, 24 total tackles, three tackles for loss and five quarterback hits. He is also coming off the best season of his career last year with 11 sacks, 17 tackles for loss and 21 quarterback hits; all of those are career highs.
The Houston Texans’ offensive line must contain Simmons if Houston is finally going to get their first win of the season. However, Texans offensive coordinator Nick Caley acknowledged how disruptive he can be and how much of a challenge
this is going to be for Houston’s young offensive line.
"He's a warrior. He plays with his hair on fire,” Caley said. “His play energy, his disruptive play style, use of hands, unpredictability in terms of taking his play opportunities. He's just a dynamic player. He's a premier player in this game and you have to account for him every single snap. You have to know where he is, you have to get bodies and hats on him. He just, he's relentless. He never takes his foot off the gas and he's uber-talented. I think he plays with an elite play style."
Simmons also has a good history against the Texans. In his 12 games against Houston, he has six sacks, 11 tackles for loss and 11 quarterback hits. Those are all more than he has against any other NFL team. This also includes a sack in both of Tennessee’s games against the Titans last season.
The Texans need this win to avoid being 0-5 for the first time since 2005 and if Simmons causes a lot of chaos, they may not be able to get that win.
