The Houston Texans have terrorized the Tennessee Titans in Nissan Stadium over the past several seasons.
Here's hoping this is the week the slump comes to a close.
The Texans look to stop the bleeding and pick up their first win against the Titans in Week 5. Houston has started slowly out of the gate in the DeMeco Ryans era, going 0-3 in back-to-back seasons after falling short to the Dallas Cowboys; this is the first 0-4 record of the current regime.
The Texans’ Week 5 showdown between AFC South foes will air on CBS at 12 p.m. CT on Sunday afternoon. The television commentators for the game are Spero Dedes (play-by-play), Adam Archuleta (analayst) and Aditi Kinkhabwala (sideline reporter).
Most weeks, 30 points would seem like enough to win a football
game in Houston, but it was a bit short against the Cowboys amid a 34-30 finish. Initially, as the offense took a 10-point lead midway through the third quarter, it did seem like plenty.
C.J. Stroud once again delivered a performance to be proud of, throwing for 347 yards and two touchdowns. With the return of Nico Collins, there was life in the passing game, as the Pro Bowl receiver finished with seven receptions for 118 yards, making up for lost time after missing two games with a hamstring injury.
Even after the Cowboys took the lead, Houston responded. Stroud found Jaylin Noel and Xaiver Hutchinson for big-time games, setting Houston up outside the red zone. On third down, tight end Dalton Schultz lateralled a pass to David Montgomery, who turned upfield for a gain of 16 and a first down.
Prescott, who was held in check for most of the first half, threw for 335 yards, setting up three different scoring drives for running back Javontae Williams. His lone touchdown pass came with 34 seconds remaining, connecting with Lamb to build a four-point lead.
As for the Titans, it's another lowly start entering the Robert Saleh era. Tennessee has found minimal success in the passing game behind Cam Ward, who threw his third touchdown pass of the season and his second interception.
Even with Lamar Jackson out for the second half, Tennessee's offense couldn't muster up enough points to complete the comeback in a 24-18 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Houston can't afford another loss if it even has a sliver of hope for a playoff run. In the history of the NFL, only one team has ever gone from 0-4 to a playoff-bound roster, and that was in 1992.
