With wide receiver Nico Collins out for their Week 2 game against the Cincinnati Bengals, tight end Dalton Schultz stepped up and put up a career-high of 140 receiving yards. He's also served an important role on the offense as the No. 2 option in receiving yards.
Quarterback C.J. Stroud appreciates how valuable Schultz has been in his development.
“His value is tremendous. I've talked about Dalton a lot this offseason, just a lot of people have asked about him. He's been huge in my development, not just as a quarterback on the field, but just how to operate in and out the huddle, how to communicate in two minute and he's very smart with situations and red zone, all the things,” Stroud said. “Then off the field, we're very close as well. He's been huge to me,
and I think he's been great to this team, great to this organization. He's a man's man, he wants to work hard, he does the dirty work. I think he'll look great on Sunday and he'll continue to be really good for us.”
Collins is still on the injury report as he was not able to practice on Wednesday due to his hamstring injury. Since his availability is in question for Houston’s matchup against the Indianapolis Colts as the Texans try to get their first win of the season, Schultz will probably have to step up again. Through the first two games, Indianapolis has given up the fourth-most receiving yards to tight ends which should help Houston’s offense.
