A former member of the Houston Texans begins a new battle ahead of the 2026 NFL season.
Ahman Green, one of the first top free agent names to join the Texans, announced Wednesday evening that he had been diagnosed with Early-onset Parkinson’s disease. The legendary Green Bay Packers Pro Bowl runner told Tyler Dunne of GoLong.TD that he was actually diagnosed last year afternoticing a twitch in his body
.“I knew something was going on long before that, I just got a hold of some doctors that I was able to get in contact with,"Green said on the latest podcast."Get the diagnostics, get the testing, and finally got it tested in January of 2025. I didn’t share it for a long time because I wanted to let my kids know, my family. I have four daughters
and a son, so I let them all know first, then told friends and family before I told somebody like yourself and went down that lane.”
A third-round pick of Nebraska in 1998, Green played 12 seasons in the NFL, mostly spending time with the Packers. In Green Bay, he helped the Packers become a constant threat in the NFC race, finishing with four Pro Bowl nods and over 9,000 rushing yards.
His rushing total, rushing touchdown total (60) and carries (2,056) all remain records for the Packers. Green joined Houston in 2007 after signing a four-year, $23 million deal. He suffered a knee injury in his first game and missed multiple games in both 2007 and 2008.
Over his two seasons with Houston, Green played in just 14 games, rushing for 554 yards and five touchdowns on 144 carries. He would close out his NFL career with Green Bay as a member of the offseason squad in 2009.
“I know that unfortunately there is a day when eventually our clock stops ticking,” Green said of his diagnosis. “The way I look at it is my clock is going to stop ticking when I want it to stop ticking. That’s how I’m looking at it. I’ve always been like that. The way I ran the ball, you’re going to have to break both my legs to stop me running the ball."
