Here is everything Houston Texans All-Pro defensive end Will Anderson Jr. said Sunday afternoon after the Texans' 19-17 lossto the Indianapolis Colts, including his thoughts on the defensive execution, the 0-3 start, and where the team can go from here.
Question: You were literally everywhere on the field. How do you juxtapose your performance and then just the emotions of not winning?
Will Anderson Jr.: “Yeah, it's bigger than me. That's a team effort right there. I would just say man, we came out, we had joyful intensity. Everybody was cheering each other on. When the offense was on the field, the defensive guys were standing up. When defense on the field, offense is standing up. We're headed in the right direction. I keep saying, what would the NFL
be without adversity? And it sucks that we have to start this way again, but here we are. We’re built for it. We’ve got to keep chopping wood, keep responding the right way. And like I said, sometimes results betray you, but you keep going through your process. You keep getting better week in and week out. Keep being consistent. Keep showing up. Keep having fun. And that's what's going to get you over the hump.”
Q: With your defensive performance, normally that’s a win when you hold a team to that many pointsand yards.
Anderson: “Most definitely. We went out there – I think we did a really good job of neutralizing JT (Jonathan Taylor) and the run game. It's a few plays that of course, we're going to look back and got to clean up, but I think we played winning football today. Like I said, they made one better play than us, and we’ve got to be able to finish and be able to capitalize off the momentum of the game and do a better job. But I still believe in this team. We’ve got a heck of a team. We're going to continue to do great things, man. And I think like this game is just the beginning of where this team can really go.”
Q: You were talking about the joy and all. How do you keep frustration from creeping in at 0-3?
Anderson: “Yeah, I mean, as competitors, there's going to be some type of frustration. But I think when you look at everybody as a whole, you have to keep the camaraderie up. You have to keep the togetherness of the team. You can't let anybody slip. You can't let too much frustration be seen because then it's going to (seep) to the whole team. And one thing we always talk about is energy vampires, and you can't have any energy vampires on the team. Everybody’s got to stay up. Everybody’s got to stay going through their process, having fun with it and enjoying being on this team, man. Because we're all here for a special reason.”
