Wisconsin Badgers football may have a quarterback controversy heading into Week 10 after Colton Joseph was benched during the Badgers' embarrassing 30-0 loss to Iowa.
Joseph struggled to find a rhythm against the Hawkeyes, completing just five of 14 passes for 90 yards. With Wisconsin trailing by 30 points in the fourth quarter, head coach Luke Fickell turned to freshman backup Ryan Hopkins
for an extended look.Hopkins completed eight of 13 passes for 93 yards and threw an interception in his first significant playing time of the season. While the freshman didn't completely turn things around, his appearance gives Wisconsin another option as it evaluates its offense.
Fickell didn't commit to either quarterback following the loss, saying the coaching
staff needed to determine who would give the Badgers the best opportunity to succeed.
Joseph has struggled with his accuracy throughout the season, completing just 57.2% of his passes entering the Iowa matchup. However, Wisconsin has also found success with him under center, including ranked wins over Penn State and USC.
The Badgers will host Rutgers on Nov. 7, giving Fickell a week to decide whether Joseph remains the starter or Hopkins gets an opportunity to take over.
