When Morocco Brown was considering a move from the NFL to Wisconsin, he received an intriguing endorsement from someone who knows the Wisconsin Badgers well.
In an interview (subscription required) with Badger Connect's Jesse Temple, Brown recently revealed that Indianapolis Colts general manager and former Wisconsin football player Chris Ballard encouraged him to pursue the opportunity, describing the program as a “sleeping giant."
Brown said, "He just told me it was a special place, he felt like it was a sleeping giant.”
Brown spent more than 25 years working in NFL front offices before taking over as Wisconsin’s general manager, and Ballard’s familiarity with the program helped convince him the move could be a good fit.
“He was like, I think
it’ll be a good fit, because you have what they need to take the next step,” Brown added.
Brown believes his NFL experience can help Wisconsin navigate an evolving college football landscape, particularly when it comes to roster construction and player development. The new GM also believes the similarities between college football and the NFL are growing, creating an opportunity for Wisconsin to get ahead of the curve.
As far as Brown goes, the challenge is not simply building a good team; it is figuring out what it takes to turn Wisconsin into a championship contender.
