Wisconsin Badgers head coach Luke Fickell enters the 2026 season with quite a bit of pressure on his shoulders.
In a new look at college football's hottest coaching seats, USA TODAY highlighted several coaches who need to make significant improvements this season, including Fickell.
UW's coach is entering his fourth season at Madison after the Badgers have struggled to find consistency under his leadership. Wisconsin finished with losing records in each of the last two seasons, making 2026 a particularly important year for Fickell and the program.
Fickell has previously acknowledged that he understands the pressure surrounding his position; now he needs to turn that pressure into positive results. Wisconsin has plenty of opportunities to make a statement
this season, but the Badgers won't have much time to ease into the schedule as they open the year against Notre Dame before beginning Big Ten play.
Fickell arrived at Wisconsin with a strong reputation after guiding Cincinnati to an undefeated regular season and a College Football Playoff appearance. That success helped make him one of the most sought-after coaches when the Wisconsin job opened. However, three years later, the Badgers are still waiting to see that level of success in Madison.
The latest hot seat assessment is just another reminder that the pressure on Fickell isn't going away and that Wisconsin needs to win this year.
