Florida State's battle with the SMU Mustangs was a wild one on Monday. First, there was a one-hour and 40-minute delay due to a power outage in Doak Campbell Stadium. Once it began, it was fireworks for four quarters.
SMU took an early 7-0 lead before FSU tied it up. The game ended up being tied three times, with the last time occurring when the Seminoles made it 24-24 in the fourth quarter. Ultimately, the Mustangs kicked a field goal with 21 seconds left to steal the game at the end.
This sets up a huge game for Florida State after their bye week when they travel to play the Alabama Crimson Tide. If they want any chance of a good season, they'll have to pull off a big upset, which isn't likely.
FSU did get a few good performances on the offense.
Here's there top players on that side of the ball.
Ousmane Kromah
Kromah has been the brightest spot for the Seminoles offensively so far in 2026. He ran for 116 yards on 22 carries, which included a 54-yard burst in the second quarter. This followed up his 115-yard performance on 14 carries in the season opener, and he had a 52-yard carry in that game. Regardless of the struggles around him, he continues to shine.
Samuel Singleton Jr.
His yardage wasn't quite what it was against the New Mexico State Aggies, but Singleton had one electric play versus SMU. He got matched up on a linebacker one-on-one and created space on an out route and went 39 yards for a touchdown. It was a true display of his speed and explosiveness.
Ashton Daniels
Daniels struggled passing with just 125 yards and a touchdown, but he was pretty solid on the ground. He ended up with 71 yards on 16 attempts and one touchdown. Daniels needs to stop being hesitant when it's time to run, but he did make a few plays.
