According to Missouri Tigers head coach Eli Drinkwitz, he will not be replacing Mike Norvell as FSU's head football coach. Drinkwitz, who is in his seventh season at Missouri, began his press conference on Tuesday by shutting down the rumors linking him to the FSU job.
"I'm not a candidate at Florida State. I want to clear that up," he said unprompted. "Let's focus on the main thing, which is Texas, and let's eliminate all the distractions and clear the clutter from that standpoint for my team and everybody out there."
He has led them to a 6-2 start to the season, with the Tigers ranking No. 19 in the US LBM Coaches Poll. Their best win was over the Florida Gators, with Missouri beating the then No. 8 Gators 45-17. He is 52-31 as Missouri's head
coach, including 29-26 in SEC games.
It is not the first time that Drinkwitz has been connected to an open job, with him ultimately staying put at Missouri every time. He was heavily connected to the Auburn Tigers and Penn State Nittany Lions last offseason.
He is the third sitting head coach to address the FSU opening over the past two days, with Arizona State's Kenny Dillingham saying he is focused on Colorado and Manny Diaz saying he is happy leading the Duke Blue Devils. FSU is expected to target proven head coaches over coordinators, according to several reports.
