Florida State senior running back Samuel Singleton Jr. was recognized by the Atlantic Coast Conference on Monday after delivering one of the most versatile performances of Week 0.
Singleton was named the ACC Receiver of the Week after accounting for 164 all-purpose yards in Florida State’s 34-17 win over New Mexico State. He caught four passes for 54 yards and a touchdown, rushed for 42 yards and another score and added 68 yards on two kickoff returns.
The honor is especially notable because Singleton is a running back. According to Florida State, he is the first non-wide receiver to earn ACC Receiver of the Week since the award was introduced in 2012. The award is open to any player who records a reception.
Singleton led the Seminoles in both
receptions and receiving yards against the Aggies, while his four-yard touchdown catch just before halftime marked the first receiving score of his collegiate career. Earlier in the game, he hauled in a 35-yard reception, the longest catch of his career.
He also found the end zone on the ground, scoring on a two-yard run in the third quarter on what turned out to be his final carry of the night.
Singleton’s impact extended to special teams as well. He averaged 34 yards per kickoff return, which led the nation after Week 0, and broke off a 46-yard return in the third quarter. That was Florida State’s longest kickoff return since 2024, when Singleton himself returned a kick 95 yards for a touchdown against the Duke Blue Devils. That performance earned him ACC Specialist of the Week honors.
The latest recognition adds another layer to what was an encouraging season opener for Florida State’s backfield. Ousmane Kromah led the Seminoles on the ground, while Singleton showed he can influence a game in multiple ways as a runner, receiver and returner.
For a Florida State offense looking for versatility around quarterback Ashton Daniels, Singleton’s Week 0 performance provided exactly that, and the ACC took notice.
