Florida State left Tuscaloosa with plenty to correct after its 50-36 loss to the No. 8 Alabama Crimson Tide, but several Seminoles still earned strong individual marks.
The Seminoles fell to 1-2 after allowing 567 yards and committing three turnovers, despite producing 471 yards of their own. PFF’s postgame grades reflected some of that unevenness, although a handful of FSU players stood out on both sides of the ball.
Here are Florida State’s five highest-graded players from the loss, according to PFF’s Week 3 offensive and defensive reports.
5. DE Darryll Desir — 67.6
Desir narrowly grabbed the final spot among Florida State’s five highest-graded players. The defensive end earned a 67.6 overall defensive grade in 21 snaps, including a 70.3 pass-rush grade and a 71.1 tackling
grade.
4. QB Ashton Daniels — 68.5
Daniels’ performance was one of the more complicated evaluations of the afternoon. The veteran threw for 377 yards and two touchdowns while adding two rushing scores, helping FSU remain within one possession in the fourth quarter. However, his three interceptions played a major role in Alabama pulling away.
3. WR Jayvan Boggs — 72.3
Boggs made the most of limited opportunities in the passing game. He caught two passes for 69 yards, averaging 34.5 yards per reception, and received a 72.3 overall grade with a 72.0 receiving grade from PFF.
His production helped Florida State finally create the downfield passing plays that had been missing earlier in the season.
2. DT Kevin Wynn — 72.4
Wynn was Florida State’s highest-graded defensive player despite playing only 16 snaps. The defensive tackle earned a 72.4 overall defensive grade, along with a 67.5 mark against the run and a 70.1 tackling grade. His performance came during an otherwise difficult afternoon for an FSU defense that allowed 50 points.
1. WR Duce Robinson — 78.5
Robinson produced his best game of the season and received FSU’s highest overall grade. The senior caught six passes for 135 yards and a touchdown, including a 20-yard score that gave the Seminoles an early lead. PFF also gave Robinson a 77.8 receiving grade across 66 offensive snaps.
Robinson’s 135 receiving yards were a season high and pushed him past 2,000 receiving yards for his college career.
