Florida State will close out Week 1 on Monday night against SMU, but several former Seminoles have already made their presence felt around college football. The transfer portal has reshaped rosters across the sport, and FSU is no exception.
A number of players who previously spent time in Tallahassee are now filling significant roles elsewhere, with several producing standout performances during the opening weekend. That group was headlined by a former Florida State quarterback who accounted for six touchdowns, while multiple skill players made explosive plays at their new destinations.
Here are some of the best Week 1 performances from former Florida State players who transferred elsewhere.
QB Jaylen King — Mercer Bears
King easily delivered the biggest performance of the group
in Mercer’s 62-3 win over Presbyterian.
The former Seminoles quarterback completed 12 of 15 passes for 236 yards and four touchdowns while adding 48 rushing yards and two more scores on eight carries. King accounted for six touchdowns despite playing only the first half as Mercer built a 41-3 halftime advantage.
RB Gavin Sawchuk — Northwestern Wildcats
Sawchuk made an efficient debut in Northwestern’s 34-18 victory over South Dakota State. The former Seminoles running back carried the ball eight times for 69 yards, averaging 8.6 yards per attempt as part of a balanced Wildcats rushing attack.
Northwestern finished with 224 yards on the ground in the season-opening victory. Sawchuk spent one season at FSU in 2025, rushing for 486 yards and eight touchdowns before transferring to Northwestern
RB Kam Davis — Liberty Flames
Davis immediately stepped into a featured role for Liberty in its 20-13 loss to James Madison. The former Florida State running back led the Flames with 51 rushing yards on 16 carries and added a two-yard reception. While Liberty struggled to generate consistent production on the ground, Davis received the largest workload in the backfield and finished as the team’s leading rusher.
Davis spent the previous two seasons at Florida State before transferring to Liberty during the offseason.
K Jake Weinberg — Miami Hurricanes
Weinberg was perfect in his first game with Florida State rival Miami. The former Seminoles kicker connected on a 46-yard field goal and converted all six of his extra-point attempts during the Hurricanes’ 45-6 victory over Stanford. He also averaged 65.3 yards on seven kickoffs, producing four touchbacks.
Weinberg served as FSU’s starting kicker throughout the 2025 season before transferring to Miami during the offseason.
S Edwin Joseph — Ole Miss Rebels
Joseph did not produce the biggest statistical line of the weekend, but he immediately stepped into a starting role for Ole Miss.
The former Florida State defensive back started at nickel and recorded three tackles in the Rebels’ 41-38 victory over Louisville. Joseph spent three seasons with the Seminoles and started 10 games during the 2025 campaign before transferring to Ole Miss.
