Florida State's firing of head coach Mike Norvell is the talk of college football these days. Despite having a losing record the last three years, he's built some strong ties to players that are currently committed to the Seminoles and those that are considering them.
In the 2028 cycle, three-star quarterback Chase Curren has been a key target for FSU for quite some time. They were named one of the early favorites to land him back in June after he took his first visit to Tallahassee for a camp. Curren also mentioned that he was impressed with the program after he took a visit when Florida State defeated the Central Arkansas Bears at the end of September.
“I had a great visit,” Curren said. “I got to know the coaches a lot better, which was something
I wanted to do going into the visit.
Now that things are different in terms of FSU's staff, Curren spoke about where he stands when it comes to his interest in them. One key factor will determine how things play out going forward.
"It’s obviously disappointing to see Coach Norvell go,” Curren told Rivals. “I have a good relationship with him and I think he’s going to do well wherever he winds up at. I would still be interested in Florida State depending on who they hire. It’s a great program with a ton of tradition. I’ll be watching to see what happens over there. I’ll also have to see what happens with Coach Tucker too because he’s the coach from FSU who I talk to most.”
Curren is the nation's No. 501 overall recruit and the No. 36 quarterback per the Rivals industry rankings. He is also listed as the No. 39 prospect in the state of California.
The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder will be a name to watch once the Seminoles get their new head coach.
