Florida State has viewed 2027 three-star tight end DeShaun Thomas as a top target since earlier this year. Back on March 26, they hosted him for an unofficial visit, and he named them his top school immediately following the trip.
The 6-foot-3, 230-pounder had planned to take an official visit to FSU in June, but he committed to the Pittsburgh Panthers in May after taking an official visit there. However, the Seminoles haven't gone away in the slightest.
Per Matt LaSerre of Warchant, not only is Florida State still heavily involved in the recruitment of Thomas, but the communication between both parties is extremely consistent.
Pitt commit DeShaun Thomas of Merritt Island, Fla., is another. He tells Warchant that he talks with tight ends coach
Chris Thomsen weekly. Thomas was scheduled to make it to the Virginia game, but weather concerns caused him to change his plans. He did say there is a possibility he makes it to FSU later this season.
The continued pursuit to flip Thomas makes a lot of sense, seeing as FSU no longer has a tight end commit in their 2027 class after three-star prospect Connor Winn decommitted almost two weeks ago. He isn't the only flip target for the Seminoles in the cycle, as three-star tight end Joshua Pettigrew, who is committed to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, is another player they want.
Thomas is the No. 890 overall prospect and the No. 41 tight end per the Rivals industry rankings. He's ranked as the No. 79 player in the state of Florida as well.
Florida State needs to add to four-star Xavier Tiller and three-star Corbyn Fordham, whom they landed at tight end in their 2026 class.
