The FSU Seminoles lost to the Alabama Crimson Tide 50-36 on Saturday in Bryant-Denny Stadium, and their fans are fed up with the team and Mike Norvell.
FSU came out strong and took a 21-6 lead in the second quarter, but could not keep it going as the Crimson Tide battled back and scored 20 unanswered points in the second quarter to take a halftime lead. They wore Tony White's defense down and scored on their final nine drives of the game, something that has FSU's fans ready for a change.
The Seminoles have now lost their last 10 road games under Norvell and their last 11 games overall away from Doak Campbell Stadium. They have not been much better at home, going 8-19 overall and 3-17 in conference play under Norvell since the start of the 2024
season.
Their performance has been well below FSU's standards, but it will be expensive to move on from Norvell. According to Craig Myers of USA TODAY Sports, his buyout is $46.7 million if he is fired before Dec. 1, 2026. That would be the third-biggest in college football history if they decide to make the move, something they may have to do if the losses keep piling up.
The only two bigger buyouts were the $76.8 million the Texas A&M Aggies paid Jimbo Fisher and the $54 million the LSU Tigers paid Brian Kelly. The Seminoles paid Willie Taggart $18 million when they fired him during the 2019 season, setting up the Norvell hire.
It will not be getting any easier for FSU moving forward. While they have the FCS Central Arkansas Bears next week, their three games after that could be against ranked opponents. First, they will host the No. 25 Virginia Cavaliers before playing the Louisville Cardinals and No. 5 Miami Hurricanes on the road.
