The Florida State Seminoles margin for error has shrunk considerably three games into the season, but ESPN’s updated projections still see a path to bowl eligibility for the Seminoles. FSU enters Week 4 at 1-2 overall and 0-1 in ACC play following consecutive losses to the SMU Mustangs and Alabama Crimson Tide
. Nine games remain, including seven conference matchups and the regular-season finale against rival Florida Gators. If every remaining game went to the team favored by ESPN’s latest available Matchup Predictor projections, Florida State would finish 6-6. That would represent a slight improvement from ESPN’s outlook entering the Alabama game, when the same exercise projected a 5-7 finish.
Here is how ESPN sees the remainder of FSU’s schedule.
Sept. 26 vs. Central Arkansas
Projected winner: Florida StateFSU win probability: 99.0%Projected record: 2-2
At 1-2, this is about as close to a reset opportunity as Florida State will get. ESPN’s projection heavily favors the Seminoles to handle an FCS opponent before the schedule shifts back entirely toward Power Four competition.
Oct. 3 vs. Virginia
Projected winner: Florida StateFSU win probability: 53.2%Projected record: 3-2
Virginia has gone from a game ESPN once leaned toward the Cavaliers to essentially a coin flip in Tallahassee. For FSU, that shift makes this one of the more important opportunities to build some momentum before a difficult road stretch.
Oct. 9 at Louisville
Projected winner: LouisvilleFSU win probability: 25.9%Projected record: 3-3
The model sees a major change once Florida State leaves Doak Campbell Stadium. Louisville has emerged as one of the ACC’s stronger teams, and ESPN gives the Seminoles little room for error in their first conference road game.
Oct. 17 at Miami
Projected winner: MiamiFSU win probability: 8.3%Projected record: 3-4
This is where the remaining schedule becomes most daunting. Miami has established itself as one of the nation’s top teams through three weeks, leaving FSU with by far its smallest projected chance to win any game left on the schedule.
Oct. 31 vs. Clemson
Projected winner: Florida StateFSU win probability: 64.8%Projected record: 4-4
Perhaps the most surprising projection comes against the Clemson Tigers. Despite the Tigers’ recent dominance in the series, ESPN currently sees home field and the matchup itself tilting toward Florida State after the Seminoles’ second open week.
Nov. 7 at Boston College
Projected winner: Florida StateFSU win probability: 78.7%Projected record: 5-4
If Florida State is going to finally end its lengthy road losing streak, ESPN sees Chestnut Hill as the most likely place for it to happen. The model is far more confident in FSU here than in any of its other remaining games away from Tallahassee.
Nov. 13 at Pitt
Projected winner: PittFSU win probability: 26.3%Projected record: 5-5
The optimism surrounding the Boston College trip disappears quickly one week later. A Friday night game at Pitt represents another significant challenge for an FSU team that has struggled badly away from home over the past two-plus seasons.
Nov. 21 vs. NC State
Projected winner: Florida StateFSU win probability: 73.1%Projected record: 6-5
By late November, this matchup could carry significant postseason implications. ESPN currently views FSU as a clear favorite, making NC State one of the games the Seminoles may need to capitalize on if they hope to return to a bowl.
Nov. 27 vs. Florida
Projected winner: FloridaFSU win probability: 30.5%Projected record: 6-6
Even with the rivalry returning to Tallahassee, ESPN still leans strongly toward the Gators. Depending on how the previous eight games unfold, the regular-season finale could become either FSU’s final push toward bowl eligibility or an opportunity to salvage a difficult season.
