Florida State enters the back half of its schedule with little margin for error and a postseason berth still hanging in the balance.
At 3-4, the Seminoles have five games left to get themselves back above .500, and ESPN’s latest Matchup Predictor paints a path that is challenging but still manageable. Florida State is favored in three of those five games, with home matchups against the Clemson Tigers and NC State Wolfpack and a road trip to Boston College Eagles carrying the strongest win probabilities.
What makes this week’s update more interesting is how uneven the movement has been. FSU’s odds improved noticeably in some spots, especially against Pittsburgh, while slipping slightly in others. The result is a schedule that still projects Florida
State to finish 6-6 if ESPN’s favored team wins each matchup.
Here is how ESPN currently views the Seminoles’ final five games, along with how each projection has changed since last week.
Oct. 31 vs. Clemson
Projected winner: Florida StateFSU win probability: 68.4%Projected record: 4-4
Florida State’s chances against Clemson moved in the right direction during the bye week. ESPN now gives the Seminoles a 68.4% chance to win, up from 64.7% last week. FSU remains a clear favorite at home in what could be a critical opportunity to get back to .500.
Nov. 7 at Boston College
Projected winner: Florida StateFSU win probability: 75.8%Projected record: 5-4
Boston College remains FSU’s second-most favorable matchup on the board, though ESPN has slightly more confidence in the Eagles than it did a week ago. Florida State’s probability fell from 79.0% to 75.8% after beating previously 5-1 Pittsburgh, 27-21, for its first ACC victory of the season.
Nov. 13 at Pittsburgh
Projected winner: PittsburghFSU win probability: 39.7%Projected record: 5-5
No remaining matchup moved more in Florida State’s favor than its road trip to Pittsburgh. FSU jumped from a 30.2% chance last week to 39.7% after the Panthers dropped consecutive ACC games. Pittsburgh is still favored, but what previously looked like one of the Seminoles’ toughest remaining games has become considerably more competitive in ESPN’s model.
Nov. 21 vs. NC State
Projected winner: Florida StateFSU win probability: 79.2%Projected record: 6-5
ESPN continues to view NC State as Florida State’s most favorable remaining opponent. The Seminoles’ win probability increased from 77.0% to 79.2%, giving FSU nearly an 80% chance to win its final ACC home game. With the Wolfpack on a bye last week and FSU pushing Miami to the final possession of double overtime, ESPN’s model moved slightly further toward the Seminoles.
Nov. 27 vs. Florida
Projected winner: FloridaFSU win probability: 41.4%Projected record: 6-6
The regular-season finale remains close enough to be one of the more intriguing games on the schedule, but Florida still holds the advantage. FSU’s chances slipped from 42.9% last week to 41.4%, as Florida’s road upset of Texas was enough to strengthen the Gators’ position as the current favorite in the rivalry finale.
