The FSU Seminoles are beefing up their defensive coaching staff and are hiring Paul Pasqualoni as a defensive analyst, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel. The veteran coach will join the program after this weekend's game against the Boston College Eagles, where his son and daughter are on staff.
FSU's defensive staff is down two people after they fired defensive coordinator Tony White and safeties coach Evan Cooper on Sunday. While they promoted linebackers coach Ernie Sims to defensive coordinator, it will be his first time calling plays. Assistant defensive backs coach Greg Moss has been elevated to the safeties coach.
Pasqualoni will add some needed experience to the coaching staff. He has been coaching since 1972, serving as head coach of the Syracuse
Orange from 1991-2004 and the UConn Huskies from 2011-2013. He was also special assistant to the head coach for the Florida Gators from 2020-2021. He went 107-59-1 as Syracuse's head coach, leading them to four conference championships.
While he has never worked with FSU interim head coach Rick Stockstill, he did work with interim athletic director Bruce Warwick at Syracuse, with Warwick serving as his director of football operations from 1996-99.
Pasqualoni has also spent time with the Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears, Boston College Eagles, Detroit Lions, and Carolina Panthers. He has primarily coached the defensive line and linebackers, but has also coached tight ends and served as the defensive coordinator at multiple spots.
