Former Florida State Seminoles quarterback Tommy Castellanos is set to pursue legal action against the NCAA as he works for a fifth year of eligibility, his agency announced the news on Thursday. He will be represented by lawyers Darren Heitner and Ryan Downtown.
Castellanos was recently granted a fifth year of eligibility when Judge Charlotte Sweeney in the U.S. District Court of Colorado granted a class-wide preliminary injunction against the NCAA that gave all 2022 high school recruits a fifth year of eligibility. However, the ruling did not change the transfer rules, and Castellanos did not enter his name in the portal after the 2025 season. He is seeking to have the option to enter the transfer portal and sign with a new school.
He started
all 12 games for FSU last season, completing 58.3% of his passes for 2,760 yards, 15 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He finished as FSU's leading rusher, carrying the ball 137 times for 57 yards and nine touchdowns.
He played 38 games during his four-year career, spending time with the Seminoles, Boston College Eagles, and UCF Knights, throwing for 6,449 yards, 48 touchdowns, and 28 interceptions in total. He has also rushed for 1,984 yards and 24 touchdowns, averaging 4.3 yards per carry.
While he has only ever played quarterback at the collegiate level, he received some interest as a wide receiver following the 2026 NFL Draft. He is reportedly willing to return as either a quarterback or an athlete. At 5-foot-11 and 201 pounds, he lacks the ideal size for a quarterback but is a dynamic athlete and has thrived running the ball during his career.
