Things didn't start off well for Florida State defensively against the Boston College Eagles. They allowed a 13-play drive for 75 yards, which resulted in a touchdown that took up half of the first quarter. On their second defensive possession, they gave up a field goal, which gave Boston College a 10-0 lead.
After trading scores, FSU was down 17-7 with just over nine minutes left in the second quarter, and then they found their groove. Boston College only scored even points for the rest of the game, and the Seminoles' defense forced two turnovers and racked up four sacks that helped seal a 31-24 win.
This was something that interim defensive coordinator Ernie Sims can build on for the final three games. With that said, here were the top defensive players
for Florida State on Saturday.
Ashlynd Barker
Barker led the Seminoles with 10 total tackles against Boston College, with seven of them being solo. He's been on a nice streak of good games as he produced 13 tackles and an interception in a loss to the Miami Hurricanes and nine tackles last week against the Clemson Tigers. Barker has been arguably their best player in the secondary this season, and he's undoubtedly improving his draft stock.
Chris Jones
It was another good performance for the leader of the linebacker room. Jones did an excellent job filling gaps against the run and finished second on the team with eight tackles, which included six solo stops. This was his third consecutive game with at least eight tackles and his fourth overall for the season. FSU has struggled this year with consistency on defense, but Jones himself hasn't had that problem.
Ja'Bril Rawls
Rawls ended the day with three tackles, one solo stop, one tackle for loss, and one pass breakup. Also, he snagged an interception in the third quarter when Boston College was driving to take the lead. It's been an up-and-down year for Rawls, but he was solid on Saturday.
