The Florida State Seminoles are looking to get off on the right foot in ACC play against the SMU Mustangs on Labor Day, but the weather might throw a wrench into those plans.
The National Weather Service in Tallahassee is predicting "a chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. High near 92, and heat index values as high as 103." Near kickoff, the chance of a shower or thunderstorm is 80%.
"A couple of concerns we have are temperatures; there will be highs in the 90s, and it'll be dropping down to 80 around game time. But still, we'll have quite a bit of humidity," NWS Tallahassee Operational Meteorologist Lance Frank told me. "There is also a chance of showers and thunderstorms, so we definitely
want fans to be aware of that."
If lightning strikes during the game, NWS Tallahassee recommends fans seek shelter and follow the advice of local emergency management and stadium officials.
Fans should also stay hydrated and consider wearing light-fitting clothing, given the high heat index. Particularly if they are attending pre-game festivities. To get the most up-to-date forecast, you can visit the National Weather Service website here.
