The Florida State Seminoles suffered their third consecutive loss to the Clemson Tigers on Saturday night, and they fired head coach Mike Norvell as a result. However, they haven't stopped there.
FSU has been completely awful defensively in 2026, and that was on display again versus Clemson. So, the Seminoles have also fired defensive coordinator Tony White in less than two full seasons with the program.
Florida State has allowed 35 or more points four times this season, and they've done so in each of the last three games. They've been atrocious against the run over the last three games as they've given up over 150 yards in each. As a unit, they rank 126th in the nation in total defense and 135th against the pass.
White has coached at multiple
schools, and his second year is when his units usually show improvement. That didn't happen this season. In fact, they got worse defensively in 2026 than they were in 2025, which was awful in itself.
The 2027 season will bring a new era on the defensive side of the ball. One thing is for certain: they have to get the hire right after how bad they've been in back-to-back seasons.
