It was all smiles inside Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday for Florida State fans. They thoroughly beat down the Virginia Cavaliers 38-7. Their defense played lights out, but quarterback Ashton Daniels was undoubtedly the best player on the field.
Daniels set an FSU record with five rushing touchdowns and gained 136 yards on the ground. He threw one interception and didn't have any touchdown passes, but he did complete 12 of his 19 throws for 183 yards. Without question, it was the best all-around game for Daniels since he came to Florida State.
He earned several honors for his performance. Daniels was named the ACC Quarterback of the Week as well as earning a spot on the Davey O'Brien Great 8 List. Pro Football Focus also gave Daniels some recognition
as his 90.0 grade made him one of the highest-graded quarterbacks for Week 5.
Daniels is in good company when looking at the other quarterbacks that landed on the list. He joins Gio Lopez of the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (91.6), Lincoln Kienholz of the Louisville Cardinals (90.8), Gunner Stockton of the Georgia Bulldogs (90.1), CJ Carr of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (89.3), Austin Simmons of the Missouri Tigers (89.3), Katin Houser of the Illinois Fighting Illini (88.6), and Keelon Russell of the Alabama Crimson Tide (88.2).
If Daniels can keep up this type of play for the rest of the season, FSU has a shot to make some noise in the ACC. The Seminoles will return to action on Friday when they play the Louisville Cardinals on the road.
