Florida State has finally done it. They broke their 12-game road losing streak on Saturday against the Boston College Eagles with a 31-24 win. Their last victory away from Doak Campbell Stadium came in their season finale in 2023 against the Florida Gators.
The Seminoles also ended a three-game losing streak for the 2026 season, with their last win coming against the Virginia Cavaliers a month ago. At 4-5 on the season, FSU now needs two wins in their final three games to become bowl eligible.
This was a good win for interim head coach Rick Stockstill to build off of, although it wasn't always pretty. Here are five takeaways from Florida State's win, which fired up their fans.
Amari Thomas needs to start at running back
Thomas took full advantage of his increased workload as RB2 behind Quintrevion
Wisner. He ran for 98 yards on 19 carries and scored two touchdowns as he led FSU's rushing attack that picked up 202 yards on the day. The explosiveness on the open field and the ability to run between the tackles is a dynamic that the Seminoles need to feature going forward.
Micahi Danzy stepped up as WR1
Florida State needed Danzy to step his game up with Duce Robinson going down for the year with a torn ACL. He put up 86 yards on seven receptions, and several of them came in key moments to keep momentum going. Now, it's clear that he can handle being the top target in the passing game.
Jasen Lopez is going to be a star
The true freshman was put into the starting lineup and immediately made an impact. Not only did he haul in four passes for 54 yards, which included key catches that moved the chains, Lopez also had a huge punt return for 40 yards at the end of the first quarter that set up FSU's first touchdown. He certainly needs more touches over the next three weeks.
Ernie Sims is going to be fine calling the defense
Sims got his first chance to call plays as the interim defensive coordinator on Saturday. Boston College did run for 148 yards and convert eight of their 14 third-down attempts, but Sims and his play calling held them to seven points in the second half, and once he started to bring more pressure, it led to the Seminoles getting four sacks and two interceptions. This was a good building block for him.
Florida State has an opportunity to close the season strong
This was an inspired performance from FSU after the chaos from firing Mike Norvell and other coaches last week. To have the resolve to go and end a road losing streak that's been going on since the beginning of 2024 with an interim coach was big. They don't play any juggernauts the rest of the way, which means this win might lead to a great ending to a roller coaster season.
