Florida State football is now 1-1 overall and 0-1 in ACC play after a 27-24 loss to the SMU Mustangs, in which they had every opportunity to take advantage of the Mustangs' miscues but repeatedly failed to do so. Ultimately, the Seminoles fell, and the schedule will only get tougher after this week's bye.
After the loss, Paul Myerberg of USA TODAY Sports moved Florida State down to No. 50 in his weekly re-rank of all 138 FBS teams. He moved them down three spots from their preseason ranking of No. 47
Surrounding the Seminoles are the No. 49 Baylor Bears and No. 51 Wake Forest Demon Deacons. The Bears went 5-7 last season, failing to make a bowl game. Wake Forest went 9-4 and made an appearance in the Duke's Mayo Bowl, beating Mississippi State
with a score of 43-29.
Florida State is the eighth-best ACC team per Myerberg's rankings, behind the Miami Hurricanes at No. 7. SMU is not far behind at No. 19. The Mustangs fell three spots despite their win.
FSU will look to right the ship when they travel to Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa for a rematch against the Alabama Crimson Tide on Sept. 19 at 3:30 p.m ET. Fans can catch the game on ABC.
