Florida State moved the ball well enough to make things interesting against the Clemson Tigers, but too many mistakes prevented the Seminoles from turning 415 yards of offense into a win.
FSU threw for 350 yards and averaged 6.7 yards per play in the 36-24 loss, but four turnovers, four sacks, and a 1-for-10 showing on third down repeatedly stalled the offense.
Pro Football Focus’ initial offensive grades reflected some of those issues. Three of FSU’s five lowest marks came from players who handled substantial roles, while one came from a receiver who appeared for only three snaps.
Here are Florida State’s five lowest-graded offensive players from the loss.
T-4. Devin Carter — 56.1
Carter matched Daniels’ overall grade but did so on only three offensive snaps, all of them
passing plays. His 57.2 receiving grade therefore comes from a much smaller sample than the other players near the bottom of the report.
T-4. Ashton Daniels — 56.1
Daniels finished with a 60.2 passing grade and 50.9 rushing mark while playing every offensive snap. PFF also charged him with two penalties, adding to a night in which FSU’s offense struggled to consistently finish drives.
3. André Otto — 55.1
Otto played all 68 offensive snaps at left guard, making his grade one of the more significant among the bottom five. His 43.8 pass-blocking grade was his biggest issue, while he finished with a 58.8 run-blocking mark.
2. Chase Loftin — 53.5
Loftin played 18 snaps and graded considerably better in pass protection than elsewhere. His 70.1 pass-blocking grade was encouraging, but a 54.4 receiving mark and 53.3 run-blocking grade pulled down his overall score.
1. Landen Thomas — 47.4
Thomas received FSU’s lowest offensive grade across 28 snaps. The tight end earned a 48.9 receiving grade and a 53.7 mark as a run-blocker, while his 54.8 pass-blocking grade also remained below average.
