The FSU Seminoles are coming off their final bye week of the season, and several players are trending in the right direction after the extra time off.
Head coach Mike Norvell spoke with the media on Monday and provided an injury update ahead of Saturday's game against the Clemson Tigers, specifically mentioning freshman wide receiver Devin Carter, linebacker Blake Nichelson, and freshman defensive back Jordan Crutchfield.
Carter, who the coaching staff praised all offseason, has not played this season after hurting his back and ribs during the preseason. That could be changing soon, per Norvell.
"Devin Carter is coming into having an opportunity this week, barring any setbacks, we'll see where that goes," Norvell said. "You'll see what that looks
like, another explosive player that brings opportunity."
Crutchfield has been in and out of FSU's lineup this season as he battles injuries, but the coaching staff has been extremely pleased with what he can do, and Norvell is "hopeful" he will be available this week.
"I think Jordan Crutchfield is trending well to be able to get back in the secondary," Norvell said. "We've had some guys that have been banged up there as well. Jordan's a guy that has shown some flashes here, just dealt with some minor injuries that have kind of set him back just from the consistency of his opportunities, but expecting him to get some good work here this week and hopefully be available."
The update was less positive about Nichelson, who hasn't played since the game against the New Mexico State Aggies, and Norvell doesn't expect that to change this week. He is "hopeful" that the rest of the linebackers will be able to play after several were in and out of the Miami game with injuries.
