It is not the reason that the FSU Seminoles lost to the Miami Hurricanes, but a controversial holding call in overtime was one of the biggest plays of the game in the 43-35 loss.
With FSU trailing 43-35 and facing 4th and 21 in double overtime, quarterback Ashton Daniels was able to throw a beautiful pass to an open Micahi Danzy for the touchdown, setting up a two-point attempt to tie the game and send it to triple overtime. Unfortunately for the Seminoles, left tackle Xavier Chaplin was called for holding, wiping away the play and making it 4th and 31.
The call has drawn plenty of criticism from FSU's fans, neutral fans, and numerous former offensive linemen. Head coach Mike Norvell was critical of the call after the game on Saturday and was even
more critical on Monday when asked about it.
"It was absolutely a joke," he started. "I called and talked to Gary Patterson, head of officials, and I've not heard his final review from it. I've got a lot of respect for the job that everybody has, and you go through the course of that game, same thing happened a few plays earlier that was not called, but in that moment, that play, it's a shame, it really is."
Norvell pointed out that FSU still would have had to score on the two-point attempt, but was disappointed they did not get the chance to settle it on the field.
"For those kids not to be able to finish the game on the field, in that moment is really disappointing... that was bad."
He added that he is still waiting on the response from the ACC and officials, but said "If it's anything less than what I said, tells me everything I need to know."

The worst holding call of the year.

How on earth do officials not understand THIS is a tackle winning his rep? @colecubelic pic.twitter.com/15XXlgQEBr
Norvell also discussed the Hail Mary to Duce Robinson that was ruled an interception for Miami, ending the game. While that play was not nearly as clear-cut, he did not understand why simultaneous possession was not brought up during the replay review.
