Florida State got a commitment from 2027 three-star edge Jaxon Holly back in June. However, the coaching staff will look totally different next season after several coaches were let go on Sunday, with the biggest being Mike Norvell.
He talked about how it was somewhat shocking that Norvell got fired, but he had a feeling it was going to happen at some point. That certainly creates some uncertainty when it comes to the future of the program, but another key factor will determine if Holly stays committed to FSU. His concern is what will happen with edge coach Nick Williams.
"But I'm just more worried if my position coach can stay there or not," Holly said per 247Sports. "Just seeing what he does with that. We talked a little bit. He's just trying
to get all the details to see what's happening too right now. I'm just worried about that."
Williams has been in Tallahassee for almost year, as he was hired last December. He's been able to land not only Holly but 2027 three-star edge Anthony Cavallaro, who is standing firm on his commitment, and 2028 three-star edge Meshi Dobson, but he's likely to decommit.
Holly was offered by Florida State just days after Williams was hired. Back in April, Holly took an unofficial visit before his commitment to the Seminoles. He was also on campus for FSU's win against the New Mexico State Aggies to start the season at the end of August, and he was also at the game versus the Clemson Tigers this past weekend, which was a disappointing loss.
That's given him plenty of time to establish a bond with Williams. So, it's understandable that he's become very loyal to him. In fact, Holly says that if Williams isn't retained, his recruitment will likely open up again.
"I would probably open it up," said Holly. "I'd either go with him or take a look at some of these other schools that are still hitting me up. It's seeing what happens with him. My first thought would be thinking of going with him. That's what we've talked about a little, but if other schools open up, I'll be open to other schools."
Holly is the No. 658 overall recruit in the country and the No. 57 edge per 247Sports composite rankings. In the state of Georgia, he's the No. 80 prospect.
This latest development is something to keep an eye on as Florida State looks to keep its 2027 recruiting class intact.
