Florida State will have a familiar voice inside Doak Campbell Stadium beginning this fall. Former Seminoles football player and longtime FSU broadcaster Eric Luallen has been named the stadium’s new public address announcer, Florida State announced Monday. Luallen will add the football role to his duties as the radio play-by-play voice for Seminoles baseball.
The appointment brings Luallen back to a venue where his relationship with Florida State began nearly four decades ago. He played offensive line under legendary head coach Bobby Bowden from 1986-89, a stretch that helped launch one of the most successful periods in program history.
“I am incredibly humbled to be given this opportunity, in this stadium, almost 40 years to the day after I reported
for my first practice under Coach Bowden,” Luallen said in the university’s announcement.
Luallen was part of Florida State teams that finished 11-1 in both 1987 and 1988 before going 10-2 during his senior season in 1989. The Seminoles finished those three seasons ranked No. 2, No. 3 and No. 3, respectively, in the final AP poll, beginning FSU’s NCAA-record run of 14 consecutive top-five finishes from 1987 through 2000.
His connection to Florida State continued well beyond his playing career. Luallen began calling Seminoles baseball games on the radio in 2007 and has worked 984 games, including six College World Series appearances, four ACC Tournament championships and three regular-season conference titles. He has also contributed to FSU football pregame radio coverage.
Most recently, Luallen anchored the debut season of GameDay Live on the Seminoles Unconquered app from inside Doak Campbell Stadium in 2025, giving him another direct connection to the football game-day operation before taking over the public address role.
His first regular-season game behind the microphone will come when Florida State opens the 2026 campaign at home against the New Mexico State Aggies on Aug. 29. The Seminoles’ home schedule also includes ACC matchups against SMU, Virginia, Clemson and NC State, along with the regular-season finale against rival Florida.
