The Florida State Seminoles came into their game against the Boston College Eagles looking to end a 12-game road losing streak dating back to the 2023 season and a three-game slide over the last month. It was the first game on the sidelines for interim head coach Rick Stockstill, who has taken over for Mike Norvell.
It certainly wasn't the best start for FSU. They fell behind 10-0 in the first quarter, but they outscored Boston College 31-14 for the rest of the game thanks to holding them to just seven points in the second half. This now puts the Seminoles at 4-5 on the season as they look to win at least two of their last three games to get bowl-eligible for the first time in three years.
It was clear after the game that it was a big moment for
the players and Stockstill. He received a Powerade bath on the sidelines as he and the team celebrated the win. When Stockstill spoke on the field afterwards, the emotions came pouring out of him.
"Emotional," Stockstill said. "I'm happy for our players, I'm happy for our coaches, I'm happy for Florida State fans, and everybody. I've said it all week, I poured my heart and soul into this program for coach Bowden, and there's so much that this program owes coach Bowden, and I just wanted to honor him."
Stockstill also had a postgame press conference to talk about how Florida State was able to get their first win in a month.
"Very happy, very proud of that football team in there," said Stockstill. "They answered the bell. Everything we talked about throughout the course of the week, everything we talked about yesterday and today, pre-game, everything. Just really proud of them and the resiliency. I talked about toughness all week, the toughness that they played with, their competitive spirit. I tell you, I'm very humbled, like I said, early in the week. But excited for them."
What made this win for FSU and Stockstill even more special was that it came one day before the birthday of legendary coach Bobby Bowden, who passed away in 2021 at the age of 91. It was certainly a great day to be a Seminole on Saturday.
