Four-star athlete Za'Kari Johnson is one of the top commitments for the Florida State Seminoles in their 2027 class. He had shut down his recruitment at one point, but he's been entertaining other schools over the last month or so.
As programs continue to pursue a flip of Johnson, Zach Blostein of 247Sports gave an update on where things are with Johnson.
After visits to Texas A&M and Miami, Johnson visited Auburn over the weekend. Sources indicate that the Tigers are not likely to heavily pursue the Miami (Fla.) Carol City standout at this time. I'd put the Aggies in the same boat as Auburn, keeping Johnson's recruitment warm but not yet angling for a flip. Miami sounds more open to the idea of pushing for Johnson, but the Hurricanes are also
in wait-and-see mode as they continue to evaluate his senior film.
I think in an ideal world, Johnson wants to remain committed to FSU. That's under the impression that the Seminoles still have their current coaching staff in place, though. As the season progresses and the losses continue to pile up for the 'Noles, the hot seat only grows warmer for Mike Norvell and, therefore, his assistants.
Johnson is the No. 344 prospect in the country and the No. 21 athlete per 247Sports composite rankings. The 6-foot-1, 196-pounder is also the No. 30 recruit in the state of Florida.
If FSU continues to lose games, the possibility of Johnson leaving will grow, especially since he recently stated that they needed to win despite still being strong on his commitment.
