Ja'Bril Rawls is FSU's top cornerback and is someone the coaching staff hopes will be among the best cornerbacks in the entire country, not just the ACC. The question is who will start opposite him and what the depth behind him looks like.
The Seminoles lost one member of the rotation last week when Karson Hobbs suffered a season-ending ACL injury. Mike Norvell revealed that defensive back Charles Lester III got "a little bit banged up" in a recent practice, but added that it will not keep him sidelined for long.
"He'll be back here in the next day or so, but I think he's really progressed well," Norvell said.
Lester is entering his third year with the Seminoles and has received several compliments from the coaching staff during fall camp. He has been
credited with several interceptions as he pushes to carve out a larger role in FSU's cornerback rotation.
The Sarasota, Florida native played in 10 games last year as a redshirt freshman, with 90 of his 123 snaps coming on defense and the rest on special teams. He recorded four tackles on the year.
With Hobbs done for the season, that has opened the door for some other players to emerge at nickel and cornerback, but they are still refining their game.
"We've got some young players that are talented, but you just want to see more consistency," Norvell said.
