The Florida State Seminoles have been going through a rough stretch as of late. A three-game losing streak has them at 3-5 on the year and staring at the possibility of not making a bowl game for the third consecutive season.
It's no secret that FSU has struggled on the road since 2023 with 11 straight defeats. On Saturday, they will travel to face the Boston College Eagles, who are no juggernaut themselves at 4-4. However, this will be a hard game for the Seminoles to win, and they shouldn't take the Eagles lightly.
This game will require a complete effort on both sides of the ball by Florida State. With that said, here are five things to know about Boston College.
Quarterback Mason McKenzie is a dual-threat
So far this season, McKenzie has 1,450 passing yards and 638 yards rushing with
13 total touchdowns. It will be important in this game for FSU's defense to get pressure on him when he drops back to pass while also keeping a spy on him with his ability to run and get first downs.
Their defense is below average
Florida State should be able to move the ball and score on Boston College. The Eagles rank 85th overall in total defense, rush defense, and scoring defense. Also, they have struggled on third down and in the red zone. The Seminoles need to take full advantage by sustaining long drives and capitalizing on every scoring opportunity they get.
Their offense struggles to score
Boston College is averaging only 21.6 points per game this season. They only have four games in which they've scored over 20 points, and they've failed to score more than 16 in their four losses. FSU's defense can't let Boston College find a rhythm in this one. Get them off the field early and often.
Their secondary can make plays
While the defense overall for Boston College isn't great, their secondary has nine interceptions on the year, led by sophomore defensive back Charlie Comella with four. Florida State quarterback Ashton Daniels must be efficient with his throws and protect the football. Turnovers could give a Boston College offense, which doesn't score a lot, easier opportunities to put up points.
They've been a good home team
Of their four wins, Boston College has gotten three of them on their home field. Opposing teams haven't scored a lot on them, as they've given up just 19.8 a game. So, FSU will need to make all of their scoring opportunities count on Saturday.
