Florida State men’s basketball will have to wait longer for one of its first opportunities to face outside competition ahead of the 2026-27 season. The Seminoles’ exhibition game against Mississippi State, scheduled for Saturday at the Pensacola Bay Center, has been canceled because of anticipated impacts from Tropical Storm Isaias in the Florida Panhandle, Florida State announced Wednesday.
The matchup was scheduled as part of the Southern Tip Off in Pensacola. Florida State said event stakeholders are evaluating the possibility of rescheduling the event, although no replacement date has been announced.
The cancellation removes an early test from the preseason schedule for second-year head coach Luke Loucks and a retooled Florida State roster.
FSU enters the new season with several experienced additions as it attempts to move closer to Loucks’ stated goals of competing for an ACC championship and returning to the NCAA Tournament.
The Mississippi State exhibition would have offered the Seminoles an opportunity to evaluate that new-look roster against another Power Four opponent before regular-season play begins.
Florida State is still scheduled to face the Auburn Tigers in an exhibition Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Ballin in Boutwell in Birmingham, Alabama. Unless additional schedule changes are announced, that matchup will now serve as the Seminoles’ first preseason test.
Florida State has not announced a new date for the Mississippi State exhibition.
