The FSU Seminoles currently have the best head coach opening in the country, and successful coaches across the country have been asked for their thoughts on it. SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee was asked about what it is like when his name comes up for open jobs, something he said he was unaware of.
"With respect to the question, I really don’t, just because I didn’t know that because I’m really not on the social scene that much," he said, per On3's Andrew Hattersley. "I did get on last week to post something about Coach Jones. Other than that, try to stay away from there because, you know, it’s usually not positive this time of year. So I feel like it’s been pretty consistent that we’re happy here, we want to be here. So yeah, if your name ever
gets circulated, it’s probably because your players, your staff, your program is doing well. And that’s a testament to a lot of people. But really, really content on focusing on what we’re trying to do here. And that’s just the truth."
Lashlee does not have any connections to FSU, but has experience in Florida after serving as the offensive coordinator for the Miami Hurricanes from 2020-21. He has also had a ton of success in the ACC as SMU's head coach, getting them to the conference championship game in 2024 and going 18-4 in ACC games since they joined the league.
He has been connected to other jobs during his time at SMU and turned them down, so it could be tough to pry him away from the Mustangs if the Seminoles do elect to make a run at him.
