Florida State is working diligently to improve its football program and athletics throughout the university. Of course, that means they need individuals who are willing to assist in funding to ensure that FSU gets the best of the best in all areas.
On Wednesday night, the Seminole Boosters announced new additions to their Board of Directors. One of them is Rob Murphy, who graduated from Florida State in 1991 with a degree in Accounting. Another is Jeremy Cloud, who also attended the university and earned degrees in Accounting and Finance (2005) as well as his Juris Doctorate (2008). While those are great additions, another took the headlines.
FSU is bringing on one of the best players in its football program's history to the Board of Directors.
Joining them is former quarterback Jameis Winston, who won the Heisman Trophy and led Florida State to the national championship in 2013 as the team went 14-0. He also helped them go 13-0 in 2014 before a loss to the Oregon Ducks in the first College Football Playoff.
Winston has been in the NFL since 2015 when he was drafted No. 1 overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After five seasons there, Winston played for the New Orleans Saints for four years, the Cleveland Browns for one year in 2024, and he's been with the New York Giants since 2025. He signed a two-year extension with them for $13 million in September that will keep him under contract through 2028.
Once the 2026 season ends, Winston will have earned $84.9 million in career earnings. When factoring total cash payouts over his deals, his cumulative cash earnings go up to $97.4 million. This makes him more than capable of helping FSU financially as they move forward with improving their athletic department, as well as being able to connect with other potential donors to boost fundraising.
